    FAQ

New River Bridge Walk Common Questions

    What should I wear?

Comfortable walking shoes (sandals must have a heel strap). The catwalk is 10–15°F cooler, so dress appropriately.

    Is it safe?

Before your guided tour begins, you'll put on a full climbing harness and be securely fastened to a safety cable that runs the entire length of the catwalk under the bridge. Every guest is harnessed in from start to finish – you can focus on the breathtaking views, not your footing.

    Can kids participate?

Yes! Children ages 8+ who are at least 48 inches tall are welcome. Our youngest walkers start at 8 and our oldest was 97 — everyone's invited!

What can you expect while walking across the bridge?

Along the way, there's plenty of time for photos, questions, stories, and jaw‑dropping moments as your guide shares the history of the Bridge, the New River Gorge, and the surrounding National Park & Preserve.

What time of year is the tour available?

Bridge Walk operates year‑round, offering different scenic experiences each season - from spring blooms to fall foliage to dramatic winter vistas. Come bag them all!

    What happens in bad weather?

Tours run rain or shine! The bridge deck acts as a 69-foot-wide umbrella. We recommend a rain jacket for the short walks to and from the bridge.

    Can I bring a camera?

Yes! Cameras are encouraged. They must be securely attached with a strap or harness for safety.

    How long is the experience?

Tours are 2+ hours from check-in to return.
